Dear community,

today, I received a new MacBook Pro 13" M1 machine that is supposed to be a present. When taking it out of the cardboard outer box, I noticed that

a) when handling the white, sealed box, something inside seems to move slightly and
b) the white sealed box seems to be slightly bulged to the outside in the middle of the front.

Is there anyone who recently received a new MacBook and can tell me whether this is "normal" or whether this is an indication for some mishandling or any other problems? Moving parts inside of boxes are usually a sign for caution on my end.

Thank you for your help!

I picked up mine from the store. It was already in stock (16GB / 1TB)

a) not with mine
b) slight bulge in the middle

Everything was intact and working

Mine was shipped to my home back in November. No bulges, and nothing moved around. Try it out, if it seems like there's something wrong with it exchange it for a new one.

Not here either.

Thank you for your input!

Just to clarify the "bulge", it's not really something sticking out but rather the edges of the box are lower than the center.

About the "moving" part: I suspect that it might be the MacBook itself, moving a tiny bit inside the respective "recess" inside the packaging, but I don't really know if it's supposed to be that way or not.

I'll try to take a look soon and see if there's something wrong with it.

It could be a slight movement of the MacBook.

That's what I thought, but is that something that is "supposed" to happen, e.g. is it based on the design of the packaging?
Mine wasn't exactly hard to get out so probably not in its niche too tightly. Presumably so you don't have to pry it out :)

That's what I thought too. As the white box is completely sealed, the outer cardboard box didn't show any damage and Apple products are usually packaged quite carefully, I think/hope everything is fine and I'm just being too excited about the new MacBook. 😬

Nothing wrong with being cautious and asking the experts. It sounds like your Mac may have had a lot of handling before getting to you, which can happen sometimes.

Use it as you normally would and if you think you spot a problem, get in here and someone will be able to give you direction.

Congrats on your new gift. The M1 is a great Mac.

Thanks to all of you for helping me out here and for taking the question seriously, I appreciate it. In the unlikely case that there are any problems with the Mac, I'll get back here and otherwise, I'll enjoy the hell out of it. 🥰
