No, that serves a purpose, since the two sides have different functionality.Just got a brand new MacBook Pro and I have a question about the dock.
Is there any way to get rid of the line that separates iTunes from the trashcan?

You can go into the dock app itself (HD/System/Library/CoreServices/Dock.app/Contents/Resources) and delete the separator image, but don't recommend it.
