How much do they discount?

BTW I'm surprised you even understood my illiterate question. I'm really tired..

i cant say cause i have never bought but i know u get a free Ipod if u buy in between a certain time lol but i heard like a few 100 i'm not sure if i heard right ask around someone will know

If you have a Mac you'd need 2004 or 2008. 2003 and 2007 are Windows-only.

I bet you can get a copy of Student MS Office 2008 for double digits. $149 at the most.

You can save yourself some money possibly by using Neo Office instead of MS Office. I've been using OpenOffice for years (NeoOffice is basically the Mac version) in a corporate environment and have yet to find any issue with compatibility (of course I don't know what you need in an office suite). It will open and save your docs, spreadsheets and presentations in MS format (and quite a few others). Anyway, just thought that I would let you know about it, I know how students need beer money ;) and this will save you from having to spend it on software.

I've found the non-MS Office alternatives (including iWork) mess up formatting when you open them in their MS Office apps. I was making some nice stuff in iWork, give it to classmates in word document "format" and it messed up everything. Made it not worthwhile to use them unless I was just going to make a pdf out of it.

If I bought my MacBook right now and the next week would I be eligible for the student loan discount? What's the time frame for the loan?

Its not a student loan discount, its a educational discount. You save $100 off of a MB, but you need to have an acceptance letter or student ID from a university in your country. One of my friends wasn't able to receive the discount because she had an acceptance letter from a UK uni while she was in the US.

Exactly right. Some schools actually have their own Apple stores (UGA, in fact, has a authorized store for both Macs and Dells). But the Apple discount varies with what you get, it's not just a flat $100 for all their products, and it extends to just about everything that they sell. I'm getting a Macbook in mid-July :D, so I haven't gone through all the steps (like the final payment) of getting one but so far I haven't had to supply any I.D. on the Mac website. And reiterating StuBeck it's not a loan at all, just a discount.

Really?? Hmm...never had that problem and most of the people at my work use MS Office. But hey...I suppose it could happen. :D

last summer the discount was 100 for a macbook and 200 for a macbook pro but you couldn't use that on refurbished items...plus you save on pretty much everything else on the website as well.....plus you usually get a free ipod in the summer....with the purchase of either a macbook or a macbook pro.

any idea around what time that whole ipod deal has started in the past? i'm going to be in columbus in a few weeks, which has the closest apple store to my house, and i'd like to pick up my macbook then if i can, but i'd prob wait if the ipod deal starts fairly soon after that

i have no clue also it may not happen this year who knows. But you can always order it online and get the deal that way... That's what i did last year except you have to wait like 2 months until the money comes in form of a refund check.

It started in the early part of June. It was get a free iPod Nano with the purchase of any mac but a mac mini I believe. It was a rebate for $150 (the price of the cheapest nano) and you had to pay for the item, and received the money back in a rebate.

Yes, hence why I made the first statement.

It was a problem both with Powerpoint and Word documents.

Now now...no need to get snotty. I am just having my doubts as to whether it was an application issue (and I am only speaking of neo office/open office, i have never used iWorks) or a user issue.

Sorry, but people saying "Really?" is one of my biggest pet peeves. If I didn't mean it in the first place, I wouldn't have said it!

I can post the two different documents in PDF, one as iWork and one as Word in a few days if you want to show the differences. I think its mainly down to the difference in fonts that causes the issue.

Fair enough then. I would be interested to see that then. I mean, I can probably reproduce the issues that you had, but I think that I would have to intentionally mess up my document to do so.
