If I buy a macbook pro today at the applestore -- either the 2.66 or the 2.44 (or even the last one 2.53) --- as I understand, they all take PC-8500 DDR3 1066MHz SO-DIMM So for $700 getting the 8gb of ram to put in the faster machines... if apple comes out with new macbook pros in 6 months, or in 2009 - do we know if our expensive RAM will be able to drop into these new machines? just curiuous.... i know we cant forsee what kinds of upgrades will happen to the macbook pro... but knowing intel's roadmap.. do we know if our memory right now will fit into future intel chipsets? at least for the next year thanks again P
and quick question: buying the ram from mac sales owc right now.. about $720 for the 8gb of ram... do you guys forsee a huge price drop coming up or just marginal ones p
Memories will continue to drop over time. They always do. As for huge price drop? Not really. The economy is slightly delaying any kind of major price cuts. We're more likely to see marginal price drops continuously over time. If you do not need 8GB right now, I suggest waiting. There won't be any new MBP, just minor speed bumps for the rest of 2009. As for DDR3, it should remain DDR3 1066Mhz throughout the year as well.
