It's done now. And I agree with basically both of what you two just said. I ended up doing the chat 2 more times over the last 24 hours and from what I could piece together it sounded like the process was out of certain people's hands once the ticket is processed...unless you get lucky and talk to the right person and they just advance the ticket immediately.

I try to take a very "humanized" perspective of the CSR's I talk to...I spent a good number of years in retail and sometimes I just couldn't be very useful to a customer because I hadn't come across their particular issue yet or there was a gap in my training or I was distracted that day, etc... I just try to understand that these are real people I'm talking to who make real mistakes every single day, just like I do, and that a good measure of patience and grace is something that will get paid back to me at some point in my life should I extend it their way :)

Overall, it was a pretty painless experience anyways, aside from the annoyance of not having cell service for basically 2 days. Fortunately, with iMessage and emails, I was able to communicate with most of my contacts if necessary, it just would have been really dangerous had I ended up in a car wreck or had some emergency where neither of those options would have helped me or my wife at all!

If I would have started this process a week ago, I would have had time to just order one of Cricket's "free" (after Visa card rebate) smartphones and port the number immediately to that device. I would have been stuck with some cheapo android-based phone for a week or so but at least I would have had service...I considered buying a $20 BLU phone or something from Wal-Mart but decided that I'd just rather go without service for as long as it'd take rather than flush money directly down the toilet :D
