I'm kind of new tk Mac pros. I was looking for a computer but hate the fact you can't really upgrade iMacs. Would a 2012 Mac Pro lightly used, single quad core 3.2 ghz would it be a good deal at $650?

I personally will call it a fair deal. If it's the real 2012 machine, than its pretty good. However, you can achieve exactly the same thing by getting a 4,1 and upgrade the CPU by yourself. Most likely the cost will be lower than $650 for the same performance.

So you may pay a bit extra for a newer machine, but not for it's spec or performance.

No one can answer this for you. It all depends on what you need.
