Hi guys, I'm updating Leopard as we speak and its about half way (350MB) and was wondering if I shut my computer down now will it resume where it left off or start from the beginning?

Cheers, Marcel.

I would suggest not shutting down while updating at all ;)

Oh no, I actually mean its downloading with the software updater. The system itself isn't actually updating now. So I guess the question is, will the download restart from the beginning?

It saves the progress and next time you open Software Update it will start downloading from where it left off, yes.

I understood what you said, but I would still not shut down unless I had, but that's just me

I *think* it would start over completely
Edit: see above for a differing opinion <smile>
I have never aborted a download, so I have no direct knowledge

I'm with Dawg. I'm pretty sure it will restart the download if you abort.

I'd just let it go.

No, it saves the progress and I know that for a fact. If my internet times out or if I press "stop" while Software Update is downloading something, it will pick up from that spot next time I open it. Software Update also changes to reflect that - selecting the stopped item will show "Partially downloaded (--%)" at the bottom of the Software Update window.

Completely true. The internet here is slow, so I stop it momentarily when I want to use the internet unfettered.

No and how many post from users are here from doing that and than they have computer problems right after. I agree with you MacDawg, don't do it...

That's not what he's talking about.

In any case, it really doesn't matter if downloading is done over several sessions. All installer data is compressed and likely to undergo some checksum before initiating the installer process.

If you want to be uber paranoid, download in a single session, I have heard people with problems regardless of download method. They'll download the same update multiple times and still get the same error. This isn't a cause of the problem.
