I only want to have iPhone adding contacts to Gmail for google voice but not the other way around since there are way too many email only contacts that I obviously don't want to have added on my phone. Can I configure it that way?

btw. if someone sends me an international text to my gv nr. do they have to pay international rates?

Only solution I know is to continue syncing your iPhone to iTunes so that it syncs your contacts into Address Book.

Now, go purchase http://www.spanningsync.com

Set it up to sync your contacts between Address Book and Gmail and set it to "Never change Address Book".

Your information will now only go Address Book --> Gmail and never Gmail --> Address Book.

It will work but it'll cost you for Spanning Sync.
