The app says you need to log a 5K walk or run to earn this badge. It's really cold and I can't stand the taste of blood/burning in the lungs that comes with running in the cold so was wondering if doing this on a treadmill would qualify. I would think you would actually need to be moving for the GPS to measure distance but not sure if it can also calculate distance based on pace and time.

I could be mistaken, but if you've calibrated your watch, then I'm pretty sure it records your distance on treadmills as well. Not sure of the accuracy, as I despise treadmills & never run on them.

Thanks for the reply. Hopefully someone who does regular treadmill workouts can confirm. I've never logged a treadmill workout so I can't check. I have, however, logged stairstepper and elliptical workout and neither of those have a distance measurement.

Just do an indoor walk/run on a treadmill. It should work.

Last years badge counted my treadmill walk. Just make sure you select "Indoor".

I’m not in the US so haven’t seen the wording of the award, but unless it specifically says outside workout, then indoor will be fine. The indoor run tracks your distance based on strides and so accuracy can vary depending on how your stride changes when using a treadmill.

I did a 5k run this morning on a dreadmill and I think the machine showed exactly 5k and my native indoor run workout on my watch showed 3.13. I have found out the faster pace you run at the more accurate the watch is. Can’t explain why that is though. Do your 5k on it tomorrow, I am for sure. To cold to run early, to full of turkey to run later.
