I know for the iphone and ipad increases in screen resolution hasn't affected font icon size etc. However this has not been the case with the MBP. Is there technology being implemented os native screen will not cause icons and fonts to be overly small.
Apple has got this covered, with something called HiDpi mode....it basically makes things appear the same size with double the screen resolution, instead of making things half the size
Even with HiDPI, won't those resolutions really burden the graphics cards/integrated graphics? I mean I don't see people playing video games on those kinds of resolutions. It's hard enough to push 1920x1080 with all settings maxed in a game.
I don't think you'll see any integrated graphics cards running Retina resolutions. You'll need a dedicated gpu for that.
AFAIK, Intel said that the Ivy Bridge graphics are capable of running retina resolutions. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2402965,00.asp
Ah I figured apple must have something to address that. I would guess that HDDPI could also be used to similar effect on existing MBP.
Would HiDPi work with games too? Meaning they won't get blurry if you don't run them in native resolution?
I'm worried about this as well. As much as I'd love to see a ridiculously high res screen on a laptop, I would not want games to look fuzzy. I mean you could most likely run simpler games at a res of like 2880x1800 but it certainly would not be practical for the GPU.
is a laptop screen blurry? My eyes would get tired on my first gen iPad, even before the iPad retina displays came out. The pixel density while reading text just looked blurry. On a laptop however, I never have that problem. Viewing text is a dream because of subpixel rendering/clear type. It makes me wonder how good any new retina display will be on a mac. I don't think you'll get the dramatic difference you do on a new ipad. I'd personally rather have a 10 hour battery in a laptop. I'll be interested in seeing what's available at the WWDC keynote.
