Being in IT, I like to know as much as I can about the systems I use every day to better understand the type of vulnerabilities and threats common to those systems.

I have the Airport Express (A1392) as my Wi-Fi & router in the house and was looking to see if it was up-to-date on software (it was, running 7.6.4) and wondered what type of OS is running on there?

I found this page doing a quick Google search, but it tells nothing of the inner workings of the device. Seems like there hasn't been any software updates in quite a while. The last release was in 2013.

Anyone know the OS? My guess is some flavor of Unix but was hoping someone more knowledgable on the forum would know.

    Thanks.

    Thanks!

According to the results Googling NetBSD and Secure, it would appear that NetBSD is regarded as one of the more secure OS available for routers. Comforting to know.
