Hi all, those of you with M1 computers do you see any improvements in the smoothness of the UI in Monterey? I'm asking because I'm not sure if it's worth it to update from Big Sur because I don't like any of the new features in Monterey. If you can, can you test how smooth is opening folders in Launchpad, resizing windows or adding widgets in the notification center? I will update later for sure but I'll update right away if Apple worked out this issue. Thanks for the input.

what don't you like in monterey? you can run it just like you ran big sur, you don't have to 'use' features you don't want. & it runs even better for me on both my macs (compared to big sur, which was fine too). just seems like a good experience overall. anyway, getting an new macbook pro next week, we'll see how the M1 does...

Sorry, but this is not what this thread is about.

as you said. so i wondered 'which features'. and pointed out that you can work in monterey as you do in big sur. so, still wondering....

What's the point of discussing this with you if your answer will be dismissive as it always is. You can actually help me and stay on topic in this thread if you actually answer my question and vote in the poll. Please do that.

what's the point of posting a comment if you don't want to hear responses? but will let it go... since i see that you won't, in fact, answer the question. not on a silicon mac (yet), so will skip the poll.

A thought:

Big Sur will be OK for a year or two at least. If the new Monterey features don't look interesting to you, then there is no need to upgrade :)

Yeah but that wasn't my question, though. I said I will gladly update if Monterey is smoother.

and next time you can answer a question about something you posted without going on the offensive. deal? we both could do better...
No, you always making it hard to discuss with you in every thread because you're always dismissive about other opinions and you bring nothing to the conversation. It's always the same with you and according to you Apple always do it right.

first, is this really the place for such a discussion? and second, i am, like everyone else here (including you), entitled to my opinion. if you really researched my posts, you'd find lots of places where i help out, and places where i am critical of apple.

really, if this thread has gone off-track, it's your doing. i only asked you a question about something, you in fact, posted. and now, look at us...

Most of the OS is pretty smooth most of the time. One place I have found the smoothness as lacking compared to Big Sur is scrolling within Safari

Thanks for the feedback. One more reason that I won't stop using Firefox.

because one person on one thread on one forum is reporting a lack of smoothness in safari? no such issue here, on my 2 macs, or my friend's, who's here right now, on a new M1 macbook pro...

I'm not using Safari anywhere anyway. Choppy Safari is just one more reason besides many that I won't be using it again. What's your problem with that?

For what it's worth, my experience has been only on the latest beta, but everything UI-wise seems noticeably smoother (16gb mbp m1)

i use 144Hz on my 4K Gigabyte M28U, so Big Sur was already supersmooth.
Installing Monterrey on the M1 Mini now.

Does Safari play now 4K HDR Youtube content?
On Big Sur it played only on 11.2 (what the Mini came with), then in 11.6 didn't work anymore on Safari (only in Chrome)

Just installing it right now too. I hope I’ll see some improvement. Safari in Big Sur didn’t play HDR on YouTube as far as I know.

So I'm using Monterey now and I don't see any improvements in anything. That's disappointing.

After updating from from a beta to a non-beta, I'd say its improved to how it should be.

what improvements were you looking for? i find monterey to be similar in speed to big sur. some GUI changes. but my macs are running fast, and stable... my biggest concern. and there are new features if you want to explore them....

new in monterey
