im gunna be away when the new software is released. i was wondering if i can use my laptop to just install the new software. Thanks

As long as your laptop can connect to the Internet, yup. You're probably going to have to upgrade to iTunes 7.7 before then because I'm sure that will be mostly about the App Store. Then the 2.0 update will come through iTunes.

sweet thanks alot...i was just nervous that when it syncs that ill loose my contacts.

Just a warning, all the 2.0 betas thus far wipe the phone clean and you have to restore from the latest iTunes backup of your iPhone. Sync your iPhone on whichever computer you're using right before you upgrade to 2.0 so that you'll have a fresh backup to restore stuff from. The backup pretty much contains everything except music and videos.

how can i see if the sync workedon my laptop...cause i know on my desktop in itunes under prefrences and on the sync tab it has the back up..but when i try on my laptop theres no sync there..i dont care about loosing the music i just care about my contacts and that stuff.

Just make sure you have that info in address book / iCal etc, then you'll be good to go.

1. Open iTunes
2. Choose your iPod from the left pane
3. Goto the 'Info' tab

Then set what program(s) you want your iPod touch to sync it's data to/from.
