As long as your laptop can connect to the Internet, yup. You're probably going to have to upgrade to iTunes 7.7 before then because I'm sure that will be mostly about the App Store. Then the 2.0 update will come through iTunes.

Just a warning, all the 2.0 betas thus far wipe the phone clean and you have to restore from the latest iTunes backup of your iPhone. Sync your iPhone on whichever computer you're using right before you upgrade to 2.0 so that you'll have a fresh backup to restore stuff from. The backup pretty much contains everything except music and videos.

Just make sure you have that info in address book / iCal etc, then you'll be good to go.

Then make sure that when you've synced your iPhone all the contacts/calendars appear in whatever app you've told it to sync with.

    1. Open iTunes
    2. Choose your iPod from the left pane
    3. Goto the 'Info' tab

Then set what program(s) you want your iPod touch to sync it's data to/from.

Maybe you should ask you parents why they didn't give you a manual when they bought you the phone.
