Question About Upgrade (AT&T iPhone 5s)

    I'll try to make this as clear as possible.

    My father and I are on separate AT&T accounts and we are both up for an upgrade and are both interested in getting the 5S.

    I have already ordered on online but have still been stalking the in-store pickup options to see if any pop up. However, I am scared to cancel my online order because the time that it takes to cancel and get my upgrade back causes me to miss the phone!

    My father doesn't care whether or not he gets his iPhone now or next year.

    My question is: could I use his account to snag an in store pick up under HIS number and then, when I go to pick it up, process it as a return and have them reprocess it under my line? This would theoretically free up his upgrade again and I would have the phone a bit sooner.

    Has anyone had any experience with this or know if it's possible?

    Your best bet is probably to just get his phone and put your sim in it and use it as yours and when your phone comes in give it to him.

    I have been doing this for years with our account. We have 5 lines. 1 is my mom, my wife, myself and my 2 kids. I use one of their upgrades every year to get a new phone. Once you put your sim in it, it will say yours and once he puts his sim in yours it will do the same.

    So in the meantime, I should give him my old 4S until "my" gold comes in? Would hate for him to be out of a phone in the meantime!

    I've done this as well with my wife's account (under the same plan with AT&T).

    Actually, the first time I did this was with the 3gs at an Apple store. It's not a scam or anything, ATT doesn't care as long as you pay. Your father will be in a new 2 year contract, that's all. Call them and ask them, or stop in a store and ask if you can do it. I'll be surprised if they say no.

    Looks like I am on a roll with the following statement....

    It's a phone! that's it. Just be patient waiting for yours. You are trying to inconvenience someone, your Dad of all people to satisfy your impatient wants. Be a better person.

    Just call ATT before you cancel the order, and they'll have you cancel your apple order while you're on the phone and reinstate your upgrade within minutes. That's what I wound up doing two weeks ago for my 5s.
