I am looking to get my wife a cheap Apple with airport installed and OSX for around $500 used, give or take a bit.

I have been offered a Powerbook G4 with 1Ghz processor and I think it can expand to 2GB RAM.

My question is whether on a highspeed internet wireless connection (assuming proper and excellent connection) would something this old be fast enough to keep my wife from having to wait much for webpages to load? I would ensure nothing draws on the CPU or memory but Safari for using the web.

We are trying to give her something that will let her roam the house and email without being tied down to the desk on our iMac.

If you think we should get a different lap top, let us know. Our budget definitely doesn't exceed $600.

The PowerBook will be plenty for the purpose. Just be aware that you will probably need to buy a new battery when you get it.
