My brother's moving home and bringing his unlocked iPhone 3G from Australia to the US. ATT said he needs to sign a 2 yr agreement, which doesn't make sense for him b/c he should just buy a new one for the subsidized rate if he does that. So he's on T-Mobile, but doesn't have data except through wifi.

What do people do in this situation? Would jailbreaking it give him better options to use data?

Note: I searched the forums and couldn't find my exact answer. People's questions were about visiting the US, not moving here permanently, and buying a sim card from Walmart won't help here.

Thanks for the help!!! 🙂

The unlocked phone means you can just put any sim in. Thing is, most data plans aren't available on anything other than a 2-year subscription, regardless of your phone.

I don't see how Jailbreaking will give you more data options or anything.

I havea NZ unlocked phone and am living in the US. I just use T-mobile prepaid without a data plan, moistly because I don't want to sign a contract.

if you want a data plan what options are there? ATT 2 yr agreement which we already said no, but anything else?
