Depends if its a hardware or software issue you have. Sticky or failed buttons etc you wont have an issue.
Battery dying quickly they will tell you to bugger off

exactly. something simple that takes you 10 minutes to do, can save you the agony of dealing with it later. just do it.
Downgrade ASAP to 6.1.4. If you don't have a dev account, your warranty won't be honored if you take you rphone back with 7.0b1 on it.

personally, i dont think they would care since its not a modified or JB device. its an OEM apple ios version. and i highly doubt they will check his UDID or dev status, they are gonna wipe the phone anyways.
i suggested to do it just for good measure.

i think hes just speaking hypothetically, in case it needs to be replaced under warranty.
