All Apple computers sport international warranties.
Used to be, but it's only laptops (and apparently minis) now.
well for those still interested, here's an update on calls 4, 5 and 6
The only reason I called the Apple store in the first place was because I thought
Nermal had it backwards, that now all Macs had international warranties.....and I was expecting to have it verified as such. I'm thinking of buying a macbook this year myself and I wanted to know what the rules really were. As I've posted, 3 different inquiries to the Apple store all got the same response which was that there is no international warranty on anything...unless you buy Applecare.
Call #4 got the exact same response. However, the sales rep wasn't able to explain away the excerpt from the basic warranty that
daneoni had posted, but he told me that an Applecare rep would be able to discuss the policy in detail! So he transferred my call to Applecare tech support......which would be call #5.
Call #5; When I read the excerpt from the warranty to the Applecare tech rep he immediately agreed that it meant that laptops had worldwide coverage under the basic warranty, he even verified it with his team leader.....He said he couldn't understand why the sales reps were saying what they had been telling me.......He also read me part of a memo from last winter that extended international coverage under the basic warranty to ALL desktops** as well...... since what the online reps were saying didn't make sense to him, he suggested that I might call a local retail Apple store just to see what they would say.....which would be call #6
Call #6 (so hey, why not?) brought the response that a Macbook would have international coverage under the basic warranty......ok, time for me to move on to other things!
and of course I've concluded that the online sales reps had been trained to say what they were saying in order to try to sell the Applecare warranty extension....their responses were too similar to each other for it to be otherwise
**edit; well, according to their procedures manual, that's how they're supposed to treat desktops should they get calls about warranty service, but note that it's not actually written into the limited warranty which still only identifies portables as receiving worldwide warranty service
