I smoked mostly full time for about 13 years, and periodically since then. I will admit that I often threw my butts on the ground back in the day, unless I was somewhere like a park or the Blue Ridge Parkway. But on a city street? Eh. Nowadays, when I do smoke, I always try to find a trash can to put it in. And if I see a friend throwing their butt on the ground near a trash can, I usually say something. I never smoke while in the car, so not throwing them out there anymore.
There have been dozens of occasions where I've seen a smoker empty his/her ashtray right onto a parking lot, or the evidence of it recently having been done. While the car is parked, mind you.
Well, that's pretty gross.
I have never, not a single time, seen anyone throw any other kind of trash so brazenly out the car window into the parking lot.
Really? I've seen people throw entire bags of fast food leftovers right out the window into parking lots, interstates, etc. Not infrequently.
Yes, there's more to litter than just cigarette butts, but there seems to be some kind of sentiment that it's "okay" to throw butts on the ground, that it's not litter. Those people are wrong, IMO.
True, but there's quite a difference in a big paper bag stuffed with a burger wrapper, fry container, drink cup, and napkins and ketchup packs; and a cigarette butt. Same sentiment, different result.
lol you really think the odor is gone by simply throwing away the cig outside the window.
Not every smoker reeks. There are ways to combat the smell. In all the years I have smoked, almost no one has ever known me as a smoker, and were surprised to find out I did.
I can't believe people still smoke. I'm 61 years old and never smoked a cigarette in my life.!
I can't believe a lot of things people do, and smoking is the least of them. Good on you for not doing it your whole life, but honestly, even though I'm only a part-time smoker now, I freaking love it.
Honestly, chewing gum is much more disgusting and longer lasting than cigarette butts.
Gum chewers are the worst. I work in museum exhibitions frequently. I have yet to ever find a cigarette butt anywhere in an exhibit space. But I have found gum plastered not only the the bottom of benches or rails, but right on exhibit cases. There you are, looking at a priceless ancient Egyptian statue, and there's a big ol' chunk of gum plastered to the case. Gross.
