Ibook logic board repaired out of warranty

I have an ibook g3 which has experienced the logic board issue twice now. The first time was when it was almost a year old. Still under warranty I took it in, they repaired it, I moved on. Then almost a year after that, it broke again. I took it in, it was NOT under warranty, and they fixed it and returned it at no cost to me. The bad thing was they stole my 512Mb ram chip (said it was broke) and put in a new hd (there was nothing wrong with the old one, so why replace it? I lost all my awesome software). I believe I read somewhere on the internet that Apple extended the warranty for logic boards to 3 years on specific serial number ibooks. I'm pretty sure it was posted on Apple site in their tech support area. I'd look for it but...I have stuff to do right now.
Hope this helps someone who experiences this issue with faulty ibooks.
