How do you shut down programs running in the background?

Looks like double clicking on the home button does not bring these up to shut them down.

Looks like double clicking on the home button does not bring these up to shut them down.

It does for me. It works exactly like it did in iOS 7. Double clicking the home button brings up the recently used/running apps. Of course now iOS 8 also has recent contacts at the top of the screen.

maybe you are confused by a iPhone 6+ feature which shifts the screen elements down when you double-tap the Touch ID
