It was only 5 years ago that the first iPad was released, and the iPad and iOS have grown tremendously since then. The more powerful these devices become, the more powerful iOS and its apps will be. so while I can understand people wanting OSX on an iPad, I really don't think sticking with iOS will hold it back going forward.

Tbh all I think Apple need to do to bring iOS up to on par with desktop class OS's is release their Pro software (Final Cuf, Logic...) onto the iPad the same way they did with Pages, Numbers and Keynote and try and fix a deal with Adobe to bring full Adobe apps to iPad in a touch based UI but with 99% of the features.

Then add mouse control (cursor or screen), and a file browser made for touch and done. That is what I'd call a pro device.

Its difficult to keep on topic when the question is rhetorical and almost nonsensical.

I'll reword it...

"Why do you want the iPad to be better when you can buy a totally different product altogether?"

See my earlier post which explained exactly why. See why I said it's pointless me being here when people don't actually read the previous posts?

OS X with ARM? No thanks

iPad with x86 based CPU? No thanks

X86 based pad is the best choice. Hell its a retina MacBook without the keyboard. Simple design choice really. They have perfected the logic board and screen just needs to be packaged correctly.

I've just done some measuring and to use the MacBook internals as they are Apple would only need to add a few MM to the thickness of the air to achieve it.

Would a buy a core m based iPad pro. Hell yes!

I just don't see OS X on an iPad working.

My guess is neither does Apple. Which is why they created iOS in the first place. The two have basically the same core but one is designed for a screen, keyboard etc and the other is designed for touch. And with the move for things like Continuity and Handoff and the new iPad sized Macbook, it looks like Apple has no plans to toss OS X on mobile devices.

I want an iPad running OS X. You know what would be even better? Something like iOS X, which'll let you have both the OS X side and iOS side, kinda like Windows 10. They did that with the Surface, so why can't an iPad do the same?

Because then people would stop buying Macs.

Which post? Do you mean the one that list the reasons why you feel OS X on an iPad is a good idea or where you condemn those that list reasons it's a bad idea?

Frankly the hypocrisy is a bit baffling so I didn't pay too much attention to your post so I apologize if I missed something.

But humor me please. You want me read your post of how beneficial such a device would be (off topic) then be sympathetic to how you feel against those that oppose your opinion as being blatantly off topic? Am I taking crazy pills?

Admittedly my initial post was off topic because I felt like talking about tech but just as much off topic as yours. The OP was, "why not get a laptop?". You already did right? You listing reasons it's a good idea is just as much on topic as me listing reasons it's a bad idea.

See why I keep saying the OP is asking a rhetorical question?

The devil is in the details.

Processor aside would you want such a device to be like the new MacBook minus keyboard? Or the current iPad w/ OS X?

Keep in mind the hardware differences, front and rear cameras, cellular with sim slot, accelerometers for screen and camera orientation, Touch ID, etc, etc...

Personally? I would, as long as the OS is optimized for touch. Maybe a detachable keyboard. In fact, the ONLY reason I and 99% of the human population would get a laptop over an iPad is because of the lacking OS. Android is still not enough. I want something on which I can draw and maneuver using a touch screen instead of a trackpad, while still giving me real PC apps. I don't want to be limited to scaled-down versions of iMovie, not being able to use pro and other limited software, and I want to have full freedom overall.

I just don't understand. Apple, a company known for their innovation, can't make a device that Microsoft, a company not known for their innovation, has already created?

 isn't an innovation company, they are a mass production design and human interface company. Most times, they are never the first mover in the market. Realistically I want a more powerful iOS. I don't like a file system anymore because I think it's archaic and makes it difficult to find stuff. I want the device to organize my files for me instead based on my task preference. I just want some more multithreaded multitasking abilities, an active digitizer, a storage solution for files I need with me, and more efficient algorithms for processing data/images/video. The more automation without sacrificing privacy, the better it would be for me.

They are an extract as much money from the consume as possible company... if they could find a market for it, they would sell it.
