Okay. I'm sorry if this has been covered elsewhere but I haven't found the exact answer I've been looking for [read: looking through all these threads about web design/programming/etc,etc,etc makes me feel like an idiot - i need the explanation you give to a 5 yr old].

So I've been working on putting together a website for myself. Really simple - pages put together in photoshop, imageready, and dreamweaver [well...i'm trying kompoZer at the moment].

Anyway - I want to get a placeholder page up until the site is done so I'm looking at cheap hosting sites [read the bottom of the barrel "throw-away" kind] or maybe even one of the free sites for now. They list "hosting plan platform"? Linux, Unix, Windows, FreeBSD.
What does this mean and does it mean I can't use them because I'm on a mac? I know this question probably seems so stupid but I think I have reached my quota in terms of really understanding any more of this stuff tonight. Your patience is greatly appreciated.

    thanks

The host platform is a common misconception. It means what operating system the web host is using, not what OS you need. If I were you, I would go with linux or unix. Hope this is understandable
