Hello

I just backup a a new Macbook Pro 17 to a Western Digital Elemements 2TB drive.

I am new to Macs so I have a couple of concerns/questions

The Macbook had nothing installed on it, vanilla setup.

My two concerns
1: The reformat of the drive using the directions found in the link below took less than 10 minutes. For 2TB I thought it would be much longer.
Mac OSX 10.5.x (Leopard), 10.6.x (Snow Leopard), and 10.7.x (Lion)
2: The first backup using time machine took about 10 minutes. The total size of the backup is 10.33GB

Are any of these things normal or out of norm?

Thanks

For a brand new, empty drive, that could be about right.

Time Machine should do a complete backup of your Mac on it's first run. Select your MacHD on the desktop, then Right/Ctrl click and select Get Info. It should tell you the drive's capacity and how much is used. Does it agree with the 10.33Gb of the backup?
