I'm thinking about getting an iPhone4, but was wondering what the people here have experienced as real world contract costs. Since I have never had a mobile phone I would probably go for the minimum to start, and then see if it is useful enough to upgrade service. TIA

with a 2 year contract (24 months)

Data
$15 (200mb) a Month x 24 = $360 (not recommended for a Smart Phone)
$25 (2Gb) a Month x 24 = $600

Voice
$39.00 x 24 = $959.76

Text Message
$5.00 (200 text) x 24 = $120

not to high jack, but after the 24 months, i can keep the phone right? so i can turn off data and still use the iphone?

Yes, you keep the phone. No, you cannot just turn off data--if you have an iPhone on AT&T, they require you pay for a data plan for it.

wow that is rather lame than. can't i jailbreak it or something? so i can use it without having to have a data plan.

Virtually all carriers require data plans on smart phones. It doesn't matter if you jailbreak or not; you will still have to pay for data plan.

the only way to eliminate Data is to change to a prepaid phone (no data) plan after your 24 month contract ends (sadly it means a new # also).
