Ok, here is my question. I'm not tech savvy when it comes to this stuff. I have a 500MB DL and 15MB UL cable connection. I'm downloading 10.14 right now and it will be done in 20 mins. Shouldn't it take 1 min according to download calculators at 500 down? If I plug it in, I get 1.26 seconds or something like that.

If I do a speed test right now, It getting low 400's speed with the download going. Is there a correlation between any of this? I was not sure who to ask about this stuff. It's a solid connection but it is o WiFi. Maybe thats a reason? I would think not because I'm still getting the speed unless its capacity or something else missing.

The lower actual download speed likely has nothing to do with your Internet connection or your network. It's Apple's servers feeding the data more slowly than your connection can grab it. Even Apple's bandwidth is not unlimited.

Also don’t forget your cable speeds are probably in mega bits per second whereas the files are in size of mega bytes. Factor of eight difference.

byte or bit ? 500 mbps download should very quick but in mean time it depend on server bandwith itself. It like you have a lot of lane car but if car don't exist no use also

Ok,
I can understand that. So, you can have the fastest speed. But if the source is limited, you will subject to speed restrictions?

That makes sense to me.

The lower speed is just the speed test result from penteledata servers.

If I do these speed tests without other activity, they are right near 500.

500Megabit, (1/2 Gigabit). Blue ridge does offer full Gigabit now for 150.00 a month. It seems like it don’t matter, if I can download that fast from servers on the internet.

Am I wasting money on what I have now? I wish I understood this stuff. I called Ueridge and thought that file should be downloaded in under a min at the speed I pay for.

But the server situation makes sense.

And Tommy consider how busy Apple's servers are providing the download.
Yes, I’m understanding that.

if you're sharing between 20 people in the office okay but if your are alone 100 mbps pure enough. Even me 10 mbps not fully use every second.I just need stable fibre internet.Phone 4g might be fast but unstable for mutiple user.

I guess I'll ask, what is the reason to have this insane speed other than multiple users with 20 plus people? What is it truly for if you can't take advantage of it. If I have 10 down or 500 down, I'm still downloading 10.14 in 20 mins. Is it gaming that the speeds are for and multiple users?

We have 5 people here at my house.
