Question on iMovie

After several editing my video using iMovie, it seems corrupted. I can't seems to edit any further and totally no respond.

I have a back-up of the iMovie program. Can I just zap (trash) the original program and copy and paste the iMovie program back into my computer?

Sorry, seems stupid question as I never transfer program before.
