Question on iWorks with iCloud and iPhone/iPad

When I create a document on my laptop and upload it to iCloud, it loads fine, however, when I want to download the item, it won't allow me.

The only way I can download the item is if I open it on my iPhone or iPad.

Am I doing something wrong? I wouldn't think you would have to open it on an iPhone or iPad to be able to open it on iCloud.

Also, every time I try to open a file on my iPhone or iPad, it opens, but the file always tells me there is an error, is this normal?
