Greetings:

This is my first post here in mac rumors forum and I come to you with needing help. Please forgive my bad spelling, grammar, etc. as I’m on mobile at the moment.

I just purchased a second hand magic mouse and magic keyboard 2 off ebay for my iPad pro 12.9” 3rd generation. It came today and you’ll love this in bluetooth menu it shows up as “Grant xxxxxx’s mouse” and “Grant xxxxx’s keyboard”.

I want to know how to reset these back to factory more so as a convenience than anything else. I don’t have a mac computer so it’s really not an option. While I don’t mind Grant or his mouse and keyboard it’s just confusing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Did you try to hold the Power Button on the Magic Trackpad down for five seconds until the green light starts flashing?

Thank you all for the suggestions:

1. There is no rename whwn i hit the info icon in Bluetooth settings on iPad just forget and unpair
2. I have magic mouse 2 and magic keyboard 2 thus no power buttons just a sinple on/off switch on each.

Again thanks for the suggestions but no go :(

I am sure we’ll find it

Sorry my linked Apple support article didn’t work. This must have changed in iOS. Do you not have any access to a friend’s Mac romWindows PC? Can you visit an Apple Store?

With the current state of affairs that we all live in and everything being closed, the Apple store that I would have access to is not available and I have access to a PC that runs windows and that’s it and the closest friends that I have that has a back is quite a train ride away Thanks again for your help I am beyond appreciative.

I'm still trying to think of way for you to change those names. It used to be possible. Chances are Apple just moved the setting somewhere. You could always mail them to me. I'll change it and send them back. 😉

No help to you Carly, but I have just been through the exact same problem. Secondhand Magic Mouse 2 bought for iPad 12.9 came with a weird name. I could find no way of changing the name using the iPad but it was easy on the mac.

Do I understand you have a windows PC? I don’t have a windows PC to try but would expect there to be a way by pairing it with that. This is the first hit I found by googling:

https://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/rename-bluetooth-devices-windows-10/

EDIT The catch may be in the last para, that the name change is specific to that windows m/c

*** UPDATE ***

After obtaining a late-2013 MBP retina because my windows PC which I lovingly call the "YIKES! Computer" finally drove itself nuts from filling up its 32 GB SSD with force-fed update that couldn't even run because thy force-fed me updates thus creating a vicious loop.

the term "YIKES! Computer" as its origin in the low-end PowerMac G4 which the internal Apple code name was "YIKES!". I've co-opted this nickname to mean any computer, device, or software system that is really *that* bad and has a likelihood of failing. I still physically have the YIKES! computer and plan to install linux on it at some point thus ending the cycle.

In the end the mouse and keyboard has been renamed to Carly's iMouse 2 and Carly's iBoard 2 respectively. So problem solved... for once having a YIKES! Computer actually turned out to be a good thing.
