I’m a person with low immune system due to medical complication.

so my iPhone 11 Pro Max Has a horrible issue the phone keeps on crashing and even the apps I did restore in iTunes same situation and there is some Adhesive stuck on the side of the ear speaker.

I called up Apple and talk to a senior advisor they agreed to set up a replacement for my phone and she gave me a case number.

I didn’t set up a replacement yet due to the situation were in and I do not want to get sick getting a replacement unit that someone touched could’ve been in contact with who has the viruis .

I have to get the screen protector installed at At&t.

question I have when would be a good time to set up this replacement I would set it up right now but I do not want to get sick at all ?

If you get a replacement, even if the handset has been touched, it is unlikely that any virus would live on the surface long enough to last through shipping.
I would be more worried with handling the outer package rather then whats inside.

I'm still receiving packages from China, and while I am careful with the outer package (wear gloves to open etc) I've been completely fine otherwise.

That’s right I’m waiting for it to be all done.

im still using my iPad to write this post,

All the AT&T stores around me are closed. Gonna have difficulty getting a screen protector installed by someone else right now also. And you’re gonna have to go out to do it.

Yup I’m waiting I’m using my iPad till the stores are open and it’s safe to go out the phone is erased already.

Are you sure the hardware is defective? While possible, it seems unlikely. When did you buy the phone?

Do a full erase all content and settings. Then a DFU RE-installation of iOS 13.4.

Then setup as new (do not restore from backup).

Install a few apps and test.

What is crashing? One or two specific apps? Or is the iOS UI re-springing (black screen, then home screen). Or is iOS spontaneously rebooting (Apple logo).

I used to work in a clean room and had to disinfect my iPhone every day.

You can clean the entire phone with isopropyl alcohol (aka rubbing alcohol). Ethyl alcohol (aka Vodka or similar). Windex, etc.

Just don’t get liquid in the speaker holes.

I haven’t tried 10% bleach.

Or you can let it sit and age for ~72 hours.

Or even bright sunlight for an hour or two per side (for UV irradiation)

Who knows. Could be months depending on where you live but I second your thinking to keep yourself safe. If you are just at home, I would say the chance of scratching the screen is super low. You can always put the screen protector later when this madness is over. If you are worried about getting an infected package just leave it alone don’t open it for 7 days. Virus dies in 24 hrs on cardboard. 7 days is just being super careful.

Sorry I don’t think I read your post correctly. I focused on screen protector for some reason. Anyways... ok so crashing. If restoring doesn’t work try deleting all apps and slowly install them until you find out the offending app. It’ll take time to be a detective but those who are at home, might as well tackle this project.

True I tried restoring it and did Mode with all apps and crashes apple support told me it’s a defective.

Lot of could say bring to the store once it’s open that’s an option plus I have to give it to a family member but if they’re out of stock plus no appointment.

thats why I do express replacement its Quicker for me but since the situation and my packages pass through néw Jersey to Pennsylvania I dont want to get affect once the president says it’s safe to go out I will setup.

Yah understood Your precautions. I for one don’t open packages for a few days. Just today i picked up my dogs meds curb side at the vet. After touching it, sanitized my hand then I left it in the back of the car. I’ll bring it in Friday. Same with the orders from amazon. I just leave it out for 3 days.

i rarely send a family to Apple store since everything can be an express replacement but there exception on MacBooks that I do in store.

I think you should use your best judgement and follow the advice of a health care professional and not the advice of random people on an internet forum since this is your life at stake.

It's my opinion though that it is very unlikely you'd contract the virus from a phone shipped to you. It's true the virus can remain viable for a few days on a surface, but there is little scientific evidence about how possible it is to get infected with this virus from a contaminated surface. If you dig around on the CDC website they state there hasn't been a known case of someone getting infected that way. All known cases are transmission via respiratory droplets in the air. Not just from people sneezing and coughing, but just exhaling too since people who have no symptoms are contagious. That's why it's so important to stay home and social distance.

Speaking as a medical professional (scientist who is trained in working with BSL3 hazards) there is very little that bleach will not kill (prions, some spores).

We use bleach all the time at work to disinfect all of our infectious materials. There are other chemicals as well (phenols, hydrogen peroxide gas, ozone) but they are not available for home use.

But I know bleach has been scarce lately. And you must make it correctly — it goes flat quickly.

Once the stock bottle is opened (the kind you buy at the store for laundry) it’s only good for 30 days (write the date on it with a sharpy). Keep it capped tightly, in a cool dark place.

Make a FRESH 10% bleach solution daily (1 part bleach from the stock bottle, 9 parts water). Mix it well and ideally use it as soon as you can (after it’s well mixed). Put it in a spray bottle and spray down, soaking the outside of hard objects — boxes, packages, etc. then let them sit for 15-20min or until they dry.

But don’t forget, it is bleach, so don’t get it on your clothes, carpet, fabric, eyes, nose, mouth, etc. wear gloves (the yellow ones for cleaning the bathroom are fine) and safety glasses if possible. If you have asthma or other respiratory challenges the fumes may not be good for you.

You can also wet washcloths, bar towels, or paper towels with the 10% bleach solution like door nobs, your bathrooms, kitchen sink, all faucets, etc. if possible you want the object to sit wet with the bleach solution for at least 15min.

But bleach is such a strong oxidizer it can damage a variety of materials so keep that in mind.

Be sure to wash your hands thoroughly after use. Discard the 10% solution every day — aka make fresh every day.

Alcohols like IPA (Hand sanitizer) and ethanol are much gentler but much less effective. While alcohols are used to clean and “sanitize” many industrial surfaces. The do not “sterilize.” You need to bleach, phenol, autoclave, or irradiate to sterilize.
