Im not extremely computer savvy. So what does it mean when they say for example, "up to 1TB hdd"? How do you change the size? Does it cost extra? I wanna buy the 15" but the 13" starts with a 750gb hdd and not too much slower specs. So what does that mean?

Hard drives come in various "sizes". While the physical dimensions are the same, they have different capacities. Yes, you can upgrade to a higher-capacity drive yourself on the MBP 13" and 15", but not on the MBP 15" with Retina Display. With that one you have to order it the way you want it.
