My mother is nicely upgrading her 3g to a 4gs and giving me the 4gs.

In return, I am giving her my 4.

She lives in another state so how should I coordinate this?

I assume she needs to activate the new phone ... does she then take that sim out and put it in the 4 that I will mail her?

And I can put my old 4's sim into the new 4s?

The ein's wil be messed up but does that matter?

Does she need to activate at all?

thanks,

Do you have another phone or could you be without a phone while in transit?

If so just send her your iphone 4 and have her send you the 4s.

Make a backup of each in itunes and optionally restore to the new.

I don't think it needs to be activated on her line before sending.

actually, it does. I preordered mine through Apple using my wife's upgrade. When I put my SIM into it and tried to activate it, it told me that I could not activate because this was not the SIM that was associated with my account (even though we're both on the same account). I ended up having to take her SIM and put it into the phone and activate it on her line, and then put my SIM in and give her the SIM with her number on it.

Just got off the phone with a senior Apple advisor. She said it's a real simple fix. Take the SIM card out of the phone that was used to upgrade. Activate the new phone. Place the SIM back into the person's phone that was used to upgrade. The person I upgrade swapped with isn't here right now so I have no way of making sure this works.

They are mailing me the 4s, i am authorized on their account - though I have a separate account - so I will go to att and see if they can swap there.

then mail her my iPhone 4 and let her go to the att store there to swap from the normal sim to the microsim...

i hope that works. don't want her to lose the phone in the meantime.

I do have two iPhone 4 phones -
