Hello,
Before I bought my Mac Studio M4 Max I purchased a 4TB Samsung 4TB USB External USB drive. I also have an OWC 1M2 80GB drive which I will be using connected to my Thunderbolt 5 port. I was just wondering if it's fast enough to use to run my Adobe LR Classic catalog? All my applications will be on the Studio's internal SSD drive.

Also, should I format this drive using APFS?

Thanks

I use one for Final Cut Pro. “Fast enough” for me but that’s a subjective opinion.

I’m using APFS, not exFAT on mine. exFAT is only necessary if you need the data to be readable on a non-Mac device.

Agree with above - format in APFS if it's just staying on the MAC platform.
As for speed, as long as it's not USB2 (doubtful), you should be fine! lol

Definitely APFS. It's annoying that Apple doesn't support the full USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 (20 Gb/s) the Samsung T9 runs at, but 10 Gb/s should be fast enough.

I have Samsung Portable SSD software for my Samsung T7 - you might want to install Samsung Magician on the Mac to ensure the T9 has the latest firmware and TRIM enabled.
