Two questions regarding a iMac RAM upgrade. Ich just bought a iMac 27 Retina 2019 (not arrived yet). Due to the unrealistic high prices for RAM I ordered with 8 GB RAM. I want to upgrade to 16 GB.

1. How is the Apple RAM distributed? 2x4 GB I assume.

2. I found a company selling 2x4GB DDR4 2666 Kits (Hynix and Micron). Is it a bad idea to combine the Apple RAM with a a Kit from a different brand? Does it work out regarding Dual Channel etc.? Or should I stop being a cheapskate and buy a proper 2x8 GB Kit and throw the Apple Ram out?

1. Yes it comes with 2 x 4gb :)

2. You can mix and match. I have the 2 original 4gb sticks, and added 2 x Kingston 16GB sticks for a total of 40GB.

I'd go and get either 2 x 8gb or 2 x 16gb sticks for upgrading!

Don't buy "cheap RAM", and make sure the specs match properly, and you should be ok.
Here in the USA, Crucial is a good source.
Don't know what's available to you "over there".

What they said. No idea on costs, but here in the USA, the best bang for the buck is either to add 2 X 8GB for 24 GB total, or 2 X 16 GB for 40 GB total.

Depends on your use and budget.

Thanks so far. Helped me to make my decision. What I don't get is the "over there" or "in the USA" comments. Do you really think I can't order Crucial RAM or any other stuff in Europe? FYI 4 of the 7 Group of Seven (G7) countries are in Europe.

I think you are reading too much into the comment. There are things in Asia and EU that we cannot get in the US. There is nothing wrong with Fishrrman qualifying his post.
