So I have a Mac accessory that I want to get rid of for free… only compensation would be postage. Am I allowed to post this I. The relevant forum (it’s a bit of an oddball/rare accessory)? I can’t find the answer to this in the forum rules, and don’t see any “marketplace” forums referred to in the rules.

Any kind of transaction, including items for free, needs to be in the Marketplace section here. You don't see that section yet because it's one of the few sections with a minimum post requirement. From the FAQ:

You will not see the Marketplace forum until you qualify to use it. To qualify, you need a history of 250 posts (user title 6502 or higher) and membership for at least 6 months.

Once you qualify, it will appear in the MacRumors Community section of the forums.

If you start a "for sale" thread in another forum to avoid this rule, your thread will be deleted.

Once you reach the required number of posts and length of membership, you may not immediately be able to post in the Marketplace forum. The privilege is added automatically when the forum system does routine processing, so check again tomorrow. The delay is normal, so please do not contact us to report it as a problem on the same day that you first meet the requirements.

I have an item that’s specific to the trash can Mac. I’d like for it to find a good home instead of tossing it. I don’t yet have access to the marketplace forums. Can I offer it up in the “regular” forum? while I’m giving it away, I do want to receive $$ for shipping

And FWIW I’m a MacRumors “supporter” (I.e., paid the $25]

Rules are rules. Doubly so since you'd be expecting shipping to be paid by the recipient. It's not fair on everyone else to allow one person to break the rules "just because" they paid to become a member. Membership gives you extra goodies. Circumventing the rules is not one of those goodies.

Personally I'd give it away to a charitable organization such as Goodwill (if you're in the States).

Failing that you're about to hit 6 months. Post in the main forums for a few weeks and you'll get Marketplace access.

No, there's no exception to the rule that fits what you're looking to do. The rules apply in the same way to all users, regardless of whether they've chosen to contribute.

... Post in the main forums for a few weeks and you'll get Marketplace access.

And please remember that posting only to increase post count isn't allowed. (Not implying that that's what you would do, @MikeDr206 - just speaking generally.) But if you find some threads that interest you and participate, then @TiggrToo's observation is spot on.
