Question Regarding Jailbreak

So with the new jailbreak for 4.3 I'm a bit confused. I know if you plan on unlocking the phone you need to create a custom IPSW to reserve the baseband before you update.

Here's the confusion

I have an iPhone 4, on 4.2.1... so do I build a custom IPSW with 4.3.3? or 4.2.1?

Ok I was wrong, the phone is Jailbroken on 4.2.1 baseband 3.10. So I update the phone to 4.3 and then make a custom firmware, than unlock the phone? Or...

u can't software unl0ck that baseband u have.

Really? I've read on multiple pages that you can unlock it if it's preserved on 4.3.3

Nope, only 01.59 is a go. If u need unlock maybe try Gevey.

Ok thanks, perhaps you could answer another question? If I have a 3G, 3GS, or iPhone 4 which is on an older firmware such as 4.2.1 and has an old baseband what is the next step? If I try using a custom firmware 4.3.3 I get an error message no matter how many times I re-create the IPSW or unplug the iphone.

The firmware doesn't matter about unlocking it. No matter which phone you have (3G, 3GS, I4), software unlocking all depends on the baseband you are on.
