Hello! I have a question about the READING LIST feature, which I love and use a lot. BUT... I have been unable to determine or find the answer to this question:

If I save a document in Reading List, and the online document CHANGES after it is saved... does the copy on my phone also change?

Or is the reading list like a screenshot and the copy on our phone does not change once saved, even if the original document online DOES change?

Thank you! 🙃

That's easy enough to test by saving to reading list a webpage like MacRumors' front page, which changes throughout the day.

I never really tested it, but I'm pretty sure it always shows the current version of a website.
If you save a site for offline reading, I guess it will update it as soon as you are online again.

Well that was a good idea, thanks! I actually gave half a thought to that but couldn’t think of a website to try it on. (In my defense I hadn’t had coffee yet! 😜)

So the only way to preserve a copy of a website as it stands at the time of viewing is a screen shot? Or am I missing something?

Thanks!

As far as I understood it, --- as someone who uses the reading list weekly --- it sends you to the website unless you set it to download for offline reading. Since I do everything online, it just sends me to the URL. I've never tried the reading list in offline mode but I imagine it's a snapshot?

I'm totally there with you on coffee. ☕☕☕ I don't dare type anything until after the first cup.

So another question then...HOW to save it for offline viewing in iOS 14? Please and thank you! (I googled without success!)

Here's how to do it:
1. Share sheet > add to Reading List
2. In Reading List view, hold down on the article to get the menu and select Save Offline.

You can also set it to automatically save all the reading list offline in Settings-->Safari-->Automatically Save Offline
