Anytime that any of the Rumor/News sites make mention of the next iteration of OSX they have all (at least from what I've seen) put the release into a January '07 time frame. Now I'm not calling into question their sources as I have witnessed very accurate predictions over the last several years by many of these sites, but it seems to me that Apple has a prime opportunity with a completely new revolution of desktop computer (Intel Mac) to introduce the new OS alongside it. With new machines predicted to be announced in August, and if Apple goes with it's traditional release now, ship later mentality that could push arrival of the new desktops to September/October timeframe. Seeing how 10.4.7 is already imminent couldn't that be a possible release timeframe for 10.5?

Thoughts?...

HA, by the end of 2006, Microsoft is going to state that Vista should be released by early 2008. Leopard will definitely come out before Vista. ;)

The 10.4.7 release timeframe really has nothing to do with the 10.5 release. Both PowerMacs (Mac Pros) and 10.5 will be released when they are ready. Delaying one until the other is ready is not a good idea, so I would tend to trust much of the current speculation...Mac Pros in August and 10.5 in January.

Hmm...As much as i would love to believe that Leopard will come out in jan of 2007, i think it will be released in march'ish of 2007. Granted, i would love to be suprized.

I'm thinking we'll get a confirmed shipping date at WWDC. I think it will be in January, but Sogo has an interesting point. I could very well see the release party (and demonstration) at MWSF, with an actual shipping date in March.

As someone who knows people on the Mac Pro and iTunes teams let me just say that, no we won't see Leopard at WWDC beyond a work in progress view. It will come next winter/spring and no sooner.

However we will be getting a big surprise at WWDC regarding the Mac Pro. It's not what everyone expects.

Do we get any hints? And by next winter/spring, do you mean the winter/spring of 06/07, or 07/08?

Winter or Spring of 2006/7. Probably around March based on how confident everyone seems. Apparently they've had a few delays but nothing on the scale we've seen coming out of Redmond.

And as for the Mac Pro, it's not going to be Conroe or his buddies in the tower... we're getting something, unique.

Not questioning you or anything but I'd advise your "friends" to remember the NDA..

As I said below, in the interests of their jobs, I will neither confirm nor deny anything beyond what I've already said. And for the record it both sucks ass and kicks ass to know things other people don't. But suffice it to say I'm putting off my purchase of a new Mac until the Mac Pro because of what I've learned.

Haha, I already imagine Microsoft's announcement:

--We are terribly sorry, but we haven't been able to copy all the features of the current version of OS X. Our technicians were only able to copy OS X until release 10.4.4. Until we set our Vista product to be an exact garbage copy of OS X 10.4.6 and 10.5, we can't tell when our product will come out.

Man! I hope they release Vista soon I'm hanging out for Adobe to release CS# :p

I'm going to say January since trend show that a point release, example: 10.4.X happens every 2 months

You can extrapolate that data to figure out that 10.5 should come out in December, but I'm going to be optimistic and say January @ Macworld SF

10.5 does not equal 10.4.10. It's not a decimal system....

So when did you make this "discovery"???

It's just that, in one of your earlier posts, you said this:

I agree. It'll be in high end PC towers so I'd be totally shocked if the best Apple manages in the Mac Pro is a lowly Core Duo.

Obviously I was informed between when I posted the earlier post and now. Note the time stamp on the earlier post was weeks ago.

Lets say Feb 6th, so it's just in time for my birthday, or better yet feb 8th, but apple doesn't usually release things on thursdays..

I wish for a November-December release. But realistically I see it being released during MWSF '07 (of which I will be attending).

Agreed. I wish they could release the Mac Pros and Leopard together though.
That would be a stellar event. ;)
