Man this is like Ford vs Chevy. It's nothing more than a personal choice. It's about where, and how you use your MBP. I agree the cost for the HR 15" may be too high.

This debate is simply too much. It's on every forum. If Apple had a 0 cost option on the STD 1440 screen you would see much higher AG sales. Some people can learn to not let the reflections bother them. This makes it as though they do not exhist. Others can never get to that point, and become drained.

Apple's Glossy Screens reflect more than most from PC vendors to begin with. So, its good to have choice. Maybe it should cost less, maybe not. No single type is "a better screen". It's how you use it.

Close thread. :)

Silliness? Hardly. The only thing silly here is people posting about something they know nothing about.

I have several glossy monitors and get no glare at all. This is because the LED screen is so bright that it kills of any glare. Glossy is great in my opinion. Infact, the only people I know who dont like it are the ones that have never used a glossy screen.
Although I am an ardent advocate of matte screens and think that the glossy screens on the MBPs were a big step backward, I have the wit to understand that others may disagree. Those who can use a glossy screen and not be driven crazy by it's reflections are understandably offended by the accusation that their preference for a glossy display is "silliness." Now, if some of you glossy fans can just tell me how to avoid being driven nuts by the reflections from my iPad's glossy display, other than using it in the dark, I won't have anything else I need to do but see Paris and die.:)

not everyone enjoys having the brightness on high, shining like the sun in their face all day.. and even when you do that it's still easy to see yourself and the room behind you in the dark colors all over the screen (so it help glare but not reflections)

I always get a big grin when I see glossy users. They are looking through a window just to see the screen. On top of that they seem to enjoy reflections as if it is healthy for their eyes. Makes absolutely no sense to me, but it is entertaining to think about their silliness.
I think it's funny when I see them too.. I guess some of us will never understand

This is a true story: A guy in my economics class pulled out his glossy screen notebook. After he opened it up at his desk, he could not see the screen because the sun was shining through the window.. You wanna know what he did? He stood up, walked over to the classroom window and shut the blinds just so he could see his computer screen. It was amusing to watch but also very annoying for those without glare issues because now we couldn't look outside.. if that's not pathetic then I'm not sure what is..

I don't have my iPad yet (my status is ready to ship) but I'm pretty sure this will be a different situation since the iPad will be facing various light sources (like ceiling lights when you hold it in your lap). I can see the glossy-ness of an iPad screen being a problem in certain lighting conditions.

Find something else to be upset about.

The LEDs on the backlit MacBook Pro keyboards do flicker, but the LED displays do not.

Tell that to my hurting bloodshot eyes... I'd like someone with an engineering background to qualify that the LED ACD's don't flicker imperceptibly.

Why do we have yet another thread on glossy vs. matte? All this pontificating is ridiculous. It is a personal preference. Let people buy what they want and stop trying to "educate" them on why they are wrong if they like glossy or wrong if they like matte.

Close Thread? Why??

It's a valid question.

I don't want to overstate the seriousness of the problems caused by the iPad's glossy screen. I have been using matte displays on my 17 inch Macs for 7 years. Thus, I had been spoiled by never having to worry about reflections, regardless of where the light was coming from. The reflections I see on the iPad, while annoying, do not spoil my viewing experience. Further, I agree with what others have posited here, that a glossy display has slightly more pop than a matte display. It's all a matter of personal preference and despite my rather strong preference for matte displays, it didn't prevent me from buying, and enjoying, an iPad.

I don't mind the black bezel, but I HATE the black keys. It was better when the silver keys matched the aluminum body.
The only time I'd want a black keyboard is if the Aluminum on the MBP was anodized in black.
In support of the glass, while it can get a little annoying at times due to reflections, the colors look a lot better than they did on my previous White MacBook (glossy, no glass). Also, it's easier to clean, and more durable.

I MUCH prefer the glossy screen and always have. I find the colours are better and deeper which I prefer and the fact it has a glass cover is a bonus as it gives great screen protection. I don't worry or mind the relections either.
