I have the santa rosa 2.2 macbook currently with 2x512s ram. I was wondering if its okay to just stick in one 2gb ram and leave one 512 stick to have 2.5. Because I dont think I really need 4 gbs of ram and 1 gb seems kinda slow. The reason I want just 1x2gb instead of 2x1gb is because I think i can use the 2gb stick later on if I get another system...

Are you planning to buy another Santa Rosa based notebook or iMac? If so then you could re-used the RAM. But likey the "new" computer Apple releases new year will not be able to use your RAM. The stuff is so cheap now you should just max out the RAM.

Now a more direct answer: You system will be slightly faster if the two RAM parts are matched. Using identical RAM sticks gains you some speed because the hardware switches over to doing double wide reads from RAM.
