when in install programs or watch videos, the installer and video files show up as icons on my desktop. how do i hide these so that my desktop is completely empty?? also can i set soemthing so that the icons dont automatically appear on my desktop when i install a new program?

You can set the download folder in your browser's preferences to stop most of that from happening.
