Hi guys,

I plan of getting Apple Care/Apple Care+ for a 15" 2017 MBP that i'm about to buy in BF.

I'm a person who travels a lot. I want to know if buying an AC/AC+ would work me while doing overseas trip abroad, that in the hypothetical scenario that my MBP fails while i'm Europe or another continent. Would i be able to bring my MBP to an Apple Store there and get it fixed there at no cost if it's not accidental/on my part damage. Let's say sudden fail of an internal component.

Other things i'm looking at. Would Apple Care work if my MBP's SSD fails?
What about the motherboard?

I never drop or cause any accident to any of my devices but parts usually fail me internally. Lastly any deals, recommendations for getting Apple Care/ Apple Care + at a good price for my 15" 17' MBP? I plan on getting regular Apple Care (non plus) from Adorama so far as i seen it's a better price than the $380 Apple charges. Ideas?

Thanks

I can't tell you how AC/AC+ works internationally - hopefully "it just works"...Apple could tell you or someone here will chime in.

Yes, AC and AC+ cover SSD, motherboard and other hardware failures.

The real reason I'm answering is to mention that right now Adorama has close-out pricing on AC (not AC+) for 15" and 17" rMBP models. You can google that.

Something to be aware of is that AC used to be able to be purchased at any time before the one year warranty expired. AC+ has to be purchased within 60 days of purchase.

$269 vs. list price $379 for AC+ on a 15". No drop/spill coverage, obviously.

Yes, that's the one i'm referring to but i'll wait until Black Friday. Thanks a lot.

I just called Apple's Apple Care department and they explained that the laptop wouldn't be covered internationally. That they work by regions, and a US Apple Care would only cover me: US, Puerto Rico and Canada. Given the costs i may still buy an US Apple Care but will have to ship the MBP on my own from Europe or the place i'm at.

If i buy an EU Apple Care i may be covered but that just might be a little more expensive than the $270 price. The problem is i don't know if i'll have a fixed home address for sure when i'm at Europe. So it might be better that i register it with my home address in the States, as i can always send my laptop to home and now someone will be there.

I'll think about it.

As for Adorama i have another question. I read in some older threads that some third party sellers have problems billing AC to FL? I think i read Adorama is an exeption but can someone chime in?? As i will be shipping and billing to FL that's where i have my home.

I doubt Adorama will be discounting that for Black Friday. That's already a close-out.

Maybe not that product, but maybe they offer some promotions with AC+. I'm still holding out as it makes sense to buy the computer first and then the Apple Care. As i plan purchasing it on BF, will have to wait then to buy the AC.

Want to get the 2.9 Ghz 15" for $2400-2300 with the black friday rebates. Currently have it at $2500. But i think it might be worthwhile waiting until next Friday.

It's strange that they said the laptop wouldn't be covered internationally.

If you check the AC for Mac page it says:

  • 24/7 priority access to Apple experts via chat or phone
  • Global repair coverage
  • Onsite repair for desktop computers: Request that a technician come to your work site3
  • Mail-in repair for portable computers3: Mail in your Mac using a prepaid shipping box provided by Apple
  • Carry-in repair3: Take your Mac to an Apple Store or other Apple Authorized Service provider

https://www.apple.com/support/products/mac.html

And here as well:

AppleCare products for Apple Watch, for Mac, for iPod, and for Apple TV provide global repair coverage. Service will be limited to the options available in the country or region where service is requested. Service options, parts availability, and response time vary by country or region.

Hey smbu2000

The first Apple advisor i contacted through phone was wrong, told me missleading information! I just cleared it up now and you're correct! Apple Care and Care+ does cover globally.

This time i contacted Apple through chat on their Apple Support app and the employee who interacted with me double checked that i would be covered. She sent me some links, including the one you typed in here, and all is good!! It would work for me wherever i'm in Europe, Asia or anywhere :)

Remember that if you can only find AC+ contracts, you only have 60 days. The Adorama price is a very good price. Some of the AC-only contracts I've found for sale are the same price or in a few cases even higher than MSRP on AC+.
