I'm wondering if anyone on here is on Apple's yearly iPhone upgrade program. I stopped by the store and asked a couple questions about it. If I want to upgrade to the iPhone X I will have to pay about $50 a month and that will include Apple Care Plus and the option to upgrade your phone every year. Is this a good deal in your experience? Is $50 all you have to pay up front and then every month from then on?

The only hangup is that I'm with T-Mobile and was told they cannot reserve me one (something about they can't login to my account through T-Mobile) so I will have to wait until they are available in store before I can walk in and sign up.

You will pay tax on the phone up front and then either pay $49.91 or $56.16 monthly depending on whether you get the 64GB or 256GB model. It will be a hard hit on your credit report the first time you apply for the program. I believe it is a soft hit on subsequent upgrades but not 100% sure. Like you said, after 12 months (or paying half the price of the phone off) you can upgrade to the new model by trading yours in. Not much more to it than that.

It's been worth it for me. I prefer to trade the phone in after a year rather than buy it outright and offset the cost of a new one by doing a private sale of my old phone. It's just simpler. I really like AppleCare+ because it allows me to use my phone without a case, knowing if I shatter the screen it's only $29 to fix. Although now that the new phones have glass backs too it becomes a little more risky because to fix the back is something like $99. Still, I like the peace of mind.

What if after 12 months I want to upgrade and buy my current phone from Apple?
Like, I have the X now and in 12 months I want the X2 (X-Men Unleashed!) but want to keep the X.
Could I like pay Apple the Difference and still upgrade to the Wolverine (X2)?

Yes, pay the remaining balance and it's yours to keep. And of course you can then also upgrade to the new phone.
