I'm looking to move from Google Calendar to iCloud. I currently use email and SMS alerts quite heavily and want to clarify what similar functionality is available with Apple's calendar solution.
- Is it possible to choose the alert type when creating events at iCloud.com and on iOS? e.g. Set an email alert? It appears as though this is iCal only.
- Email alerts seem to only be sent from Mail.app after being triggered by iCal, and only while my computer is running. Is that the case? I was hoping the iCloud server could send the email alerts so I'd receive them on all devices no matter what was running.
- Is it possible to create SMS alerts? Perhaps through a third party app or service?
- Is it possible to choose the default alert type? It seems iOS, iCal and iCloud.com allow a default alert to be set, but the alert type can't be specified.
- When I create an event with various different types of alert in iCal, the alerts all appear the same at iCloud.com and on iOS i.e. There is nothing to distinguish an email alert from a message alert, or a message alert with sound. What exactly are the implications of this? e.g. if I edit an event on iOS and change the alert times do I revert all alert types to the iOS standard alert type.
