So I am picking up my 13 Pro on Friday and I opted to trade in my current device. I paid in full and would get the refund when Apple receives my current phone. I know I could get a little more for it by selling it myself, but the convenience of just giving it to Apple for credit is nice.

That said, two questions:

1. If I change my mind, can I just decide to not ship my phone to Apple? I can see this being an issue if I financed, but what about when paying in full?

2. Does Apple ever lower the trade price offerings shortly after launch, or do they stay that way for a while? For instance, they are currently offering $640 for the 12 Pro. Could it potentially be lower than that say, come November?

Changing your mind is fine. If you pay in full they will charge your card the full price of the phone, then if you trade in your old phone they will give you a refund for whatever your phone is worth. If you change your mind then you simply don’t get the refund. It’s also worth noting that you will also get a refund of the tax for the portion that is refunded as well, so if you are looking at how much you would need to sell your phone for on your own, be sure to include the tax on the trade in value.

If you finance the phone then they will give you ‘instant credit’ for the trade and your monthly payments will reflect the value that you get for your trade. Changing your mind is still fine, but if you don’t trade in your phone then they will increase your monthly payments to make up for the lack of trade.

I don’t think it’s really guaranteed either way. Apple’s trade in prices tend to be reasonably stable, but there is no way to predict when they might change.

Good point about the tax. My own forecast predication regarding trade-in didn't span out too well for me. I sold my iPhone 12PM a couple of weeks ago to fund my 13PM purchase. Sold it for 860$ and apple is offering $790. The Apple offer would have been overall better for me. It would have saved me plenty of time from dealing with Facebook marketplace muppets, those were testing times 🤣😭

Yeah that's a good point. Factoring in the tax difference and that I paid with my Apple Card and am getting 30 bucks back from the purchase, That comes out to about $700 for the 12P. I know I could still probably get $50 to $100 more on Facebook Marketplace or Swappa but the hassle involved makes the difference not really worth it.

Exactly. Swappa has fees as well as does Paypal .

Another good point.

Facebook Marketplace is sometimes useful but can also be a big pain. You will get tons of spam and responses from questionable accounts, people will also lowball you and flake on you.

In my neck of the woods my iPhone ad would start with the following responses and replies 99% of the time. " Is it available", " ..can you ship it .." , " will you accept 300$" , then I'd get the occasional time waster messaging me every 48 to 72 hours.
So yeah. I could have traded in for $70 less and not gone through FB marketplace hell.
