Get a maxed out 15" MBP 2.33Ghz C2D instead of the 17". You don't really need the extra screen real estate and the extra USB port.

Okay. Get a 15". If you think you're going to take it around to classes and stuff, you'll find that there is barely enough room to put anything on those little desks in the lecture halls. My old roommates used Kensington locks for security in the dorms and it worked well, but you might think about getting LoJack or Undercover as well.

An InCase sleeve protects against scratches, but if there's going to be a bunch of books and other things in your bag putting pressure on the MBP, it might get dented. It happened to one of the first MBPs I owned. Look at getting a bag with a separate laptop compartment or get a Speck SeeThru case.

Applecare is $239 for you as a student, and no tax is applied since it's a service. If you can find it for cheaper on eBay with shipping, go for it. I'd totally go to Oregon to buy the computer too.

I also second the extra power adapter suggestion. Good luck!

The 15" has a somewhat poorer quality LCD than the 17".

A bit of warping can be easily fixed from time to time. Grainy LCDs don't just magically fix themselves.

well im still on the fence between 15" and 17"...people say that their classes are too cramped to take the 17" but my college experience so far has been quite roomy...and its not like i HAVE to bring my notebook to school, ive been fine this whole time with good ol' fashioned pencil and paper...taking it to class isnt even why im getting it, its just a plus...

about the grainy screen, i havent been looking at 15" so i'll have to go to an apple store and judge for myself if i dont like the screen quality of the 15"...

i suppose the only thing really keeping me from getting a 17" is it may be hard to find carrying cases and stuff to fit it...AND it would be nice to have a couple hundred $$ in spending money that ill have if i get the 15"....(i have my eye on a nintendo wii lol)

in any case i think im going to wait for the next upgrade before i get a macbook pro...im holding out for leopard, ilife '07, support for 4gb memory, and i think i want an updated graphics card....i dont know if theres anything wrong with the current one but im going into computer animation, so maybe an upgrade would help...

i dont know its sooo hard to wait >_< before ive had to wait cause i havent had the money...but now i do!
