Thanks. I'll check those out. What are you using for an Android phone?

i'm using Sony Xperia Z.

I personally like phones with expandable storage but if you don't care about it, Nexus devices are excellent! they come unlocked, hackable, multi carrier and worldwide support, updates straight from google etc etc.

there is a new device coming out, OnePlus ONE (not to be confused with Htc one). this offers high end spec for much cheaper. http://www.gsmarena.com/oneplus_one-6327.php

Thank you very much! I'll check this out in the next day or so when I get to play around with an Icon or 1520.

A couple of new questions. The buttons on the Lumia are all on the right side. Have you had any trouble with accidentally turning the phone off while holding it or taking it out of your pocket? I see that many other phones have the on/off button on the top. Is it a problem or nothing to worry about?

Those of you with the 1520, Icon, Galaxy, Note 3, M8 etc, how do you carry your phone? Do any of you use a holster with a belt clip?

Well I have a Google Nexus 5 32GB, I just chuck it in my front jeans pockets or whatever I'm wearing, no case on it as all the other phones I've had as I also place my phones into Brodit car holders.
I don't really notice the phone is there to be honest, but I have somehow managed to turn the Nexus 5 off whilst in my pocket.

I find the build pretty good for a plastic phone, the screen though does have one scratch on the front but it's not too bad, it also has a funny small patch which you can only see with the screen off but I have a feeling I caused that by having my keys or something in my pocket with the phone sometime... yeah Gorilla glass 3 is good, but the best hardest wearing phone glass I have had so far was the front glass on my iPhone 4.

I much prefer stock Android, and I don't bother rooting or installing custom roms, although I have to state I have been through all that phase with a cheap Ainol tablet I had.
But I feel no need to do that with my 2012 Nexus 7 or Nexus 5, yet it's great to know you CAN do all that if you ever feel the need for more performance out of them.

The Nexus 5 is quite a bargain at $400 for the 32GB version. I am with Verizon and they are CDMA for voice and I haven't read or heard about anyone getting the Nexus 5 to work on their network. I am considering switching to AT&T for the greater variety and flexibility of GSM phones. But you have to buy the phone unlocked from a third party if you want it unlocked from the get go. Even if you pay full price from AT&T, you have to be a customer for 2 months before they will unlock it. Verizon phones are unlocked for international use.

Thanks for your input. And thanks to all who have contributed to this thread. ;)

Ah yes I forgot in the US you have two network standards, you lot should lobby government to get it changed to just one like everyone else has?

It sure would make things easier if we had one standard here. Usually there is one good phone on Verizon that you can't get on AT&T and vice versa. Or you have to wait until it comes to one of the carriers. Way back in the day, CDMA was supposedly the superior technology to TDMA, but the majority of the world is GSM now. GSM gives more options than CDMA does today.

I don't know if any of you have seen this, but check it out. A National Geographic photographer went on assignment with the Lumia 1020 and 1520 taking photographs in Rio de Janeiro and the Grand Canyon. There are several galleries of shots to check out. These two phones have excellent cameras. You can zoom in on some of the shots to see the details. I was thinking of starting a thread for this just so more people would check it out.

Lobbying won't do anything, changing to a single standard would represent an expense that no carrier wants to incur and they do seem to love their exclusives.

In all honesty, I've not been too bothered by having ATT/T-Mo being GSM and VZW/Sprint CDMA. There have been times that a given phone on ATT was not available on VZW - no biggie, I can live without it.

If you have a Microsoft store near you, they are giving away some Windows phones today and tomorrow. To get a chance to see if you win immediately, you have to answer one simple question about Cortana. The answer is Halo. You enter your name, email address and mobile number and it tells you if you won or not. Unfortunately I didn't. I was told they were giving away 8 phones per store. Take a chance.
