I recently purchased an HV20 to capture my soon (less than two weeks) to be born daughter. I have been testing it out so far and have a couple of questions.

Is it better to use iMovie HD or iMovie '08?
---Or should I spend the extra money to get FCE.

If I record in HD can I export it so that I can use it with apple tv?
---I could only find the ipod export in iMovie HD but wanted to see if there was another way to get a higher quality picture to the apple tv.

We purchased our Canon HV20 about a year ago for exactly the same reason. We have been thrilled with the camera and its ease of use. We can only answer one of your two questions at this time, and that is:
    - We found it better to use the HV20 with iMovie HD.

Plenty of tutorials regarding iMovie HD, and we were somewhat familiar with the iMovie HD version's interface. Reviews for iMovie '08 were horrible at first, softer after some reviewers played with it.

Essentially, you could start with the easy to navigate, almost intuitive, iMovie HD and move into iMovie '08 as you learn more about your awesome new camera and the newer version of iMovie.

    Cheers.
