Quick Airport Extreme Base Station Question

hello,

I will be moving into my own apartment come september and am interested in getting the Airport Extreme Base Station. I have an iBook G4 and was reading somewhere about the new 802.11n technology not working with the ibook.

If i buy the Extreme Base Station will it not work with my ibook?

Also, is it the same as using/setting up a non apple product wireless router? (all i have to do is have an internet service provider, plug the router in, and plug the router into a phone line with proper filters [using Bell Sympatico Internet] and it should work?)
